The 200 kN stand-alone CPT penetrometer set
is a lightweight and economical rig with
full Cone Penetration Testing (CPT)
capabilities. It is suitable for both
electrical and mechanical CPT testing.
The stand-alone CPT penetrometer pusher set
composes of a 200 kN penetrometer pusher
featuring 2 hydraulic cylinders with
manually operated valves and a
stainless-steel housing for datalogger and
computer, a diesel-hydraulic power-pack with
a Hatz diesel engine incorporated in a sound
insulating enclosure and hydraulic pump and
an anchoring system with hydraulic wrench
and ground anchors. It can be transported
easily by a standard car using the optional
sturdy 2-axle trailer.
The 200 kN stand-alone CPT penetrometer set
is made of the highest quality components
available and built to last. The choice for
high quality components of well-known
manufacturers having local service centres
worldwide reduces machine downtime to a
minimum.
CPT Penetrometer Pusher
A
hydraulic penetrometer pusher of classic
design, comprising 2 vertical hydraulic
cylinders, simultaneously operated, with a
stroke of 1350 mm. A thrust block connects
the two cylinders. It is capable of driving
and pulling the CPT sounding tubes and
casing tubes into and out of the ground.
A
hydraulic control unit, mounted on a console
near the penetrometer pusher, allows the
operator to control all functions.
The unit comes complete with 2 guiding
tubes, to be applied between the
penetrometer and ground level. One for the
support of the CPT sounding tubes, the other
for casing tubes.
The CPT penetrometer pusher is designed for
both electrical and mechanical CPT testing.
This penetrometer pusher allows for pushing
in and pulling out CPT sounding tubes with a
diameter of 36 mm, as well as casing tubes
with a diameter of 55 mm, and sampling tubes
with a diameter up to 90 mm.

NOTE: The maximum effective pushing
capacity of the stand-alone CPT penetrometer
pusher depends on the effectiveness of the
anchoring.
Diesel-Hydraulic Power-Pack
The penetrometer pusher is powered by a
diesel-hydraulic power-pack. The power-pack
comprises an electrically started Hatz
1-cylinder direct-injected diesel engine
(9.6 kW @ 3000 RPM) incorporated in
silent-pack housing.
The engine, installed on 4 shock-absorbing
engine supports, drives a Linde hydraulic
pump by means of a propeller shaft and
flanges. Large hydraulic oil reservoir with
effective 2-stage filtering system.

Anchoring
4
ground anchors, which are screwed into the
ground before testing and screwed out after
testing, provide in general sufficient
reaction force for the 200 kN pushing force
of the penetrometer pusher when anchored in
suitable grounds. Extra reaction force is
obtained by using extension rods, anchors
with larger blade diameter or by placing
more anchors.
Anchor extension rods are used to increase
the length of the ground anchor. They are
most useful at sites where the soil at the
surface is very weak, but the strength of
the soil increases with a little depth. The
extension rods can be invaluable at a site
where there is a layer of fill covering
stronger native soil. The extension rods
have a female hexagonal drive on the bottom
that pins to a ground anchor. On top it has
a male hexagonal drive. The anchor extension
rod is connected to the ground anchor using
a high-strength bolt and nut (both
included).
The CPT penetrometer set comes with a
specially designed, two men operated
hydraulic wrench for quick and effective
placing of the ground anchors. The rotary
drive (torque 1700 Nm) is mounted in the
centre of the reaction arm of this hydraulic
wrench. The wrench can be manoeuvred freely
around the pusher and the ground anchors can
be placed at that spot that suits the
operator best.
The ground anchors are available with 3
different blade diameters, i.e. 220, 300 and
400 mm.
Effective Anchoring
Only well places ground anchors can provide
sufficient reaction force to benefit in full
from the 200 kN pushing force of the CPT
penetrometer pusher.
Anchor extension rods are used to increase
the length of the ground anchor. They are
most useful at sites where the soil at the
surface is very weak, but the strength of
the soil increases with a little depth. The
extension rods can be invaluable at sites
where there is a layer of fill covering
stronger native soil.
Because of the conical shaped soil body on
top of the anchor blade, it is recommended
to respect a certain distance between the
individual anchors in order to obtain
optimum anchoring results. The greater the
distance between the ground anchors, the
more effective the anchoring in fact will
be.
